Empowering Young Minds for a Healthier Future

Preventive Health Education Programme (PHEP)

Building Healthy Futures

Engaging Health Education and Awareness Activities

The programme ran from June 2023 to March 2024, with a strong focus on building awareness and promoting preventive health practices among schoolchildren.

The Foundation of Sustainable Health India, in collaboration with the Salaam Bombay Foundation and in partnership with the School Education Department of Karnataka, successfully implemented the Preventive Health Education Programme (PHEP) across 20 government high schools in South Bangalore, Karnataka. One of the key highlights was the engaging health education sessions delivered through audio-visual aids to students of Classes 7 and 8 at Government Model Primary School, Nayandahalli, where around 150 students participated enthusiastically. These interactive sessions were conducted on 5th August 2023, aiming to make health education more accessible, relatable, and impactful for young learners.

To reinforce learning through hands-on activities, students took part in creative and reflective exercises. They were introduced to microgreen cultivation, with seeds distributed to encourage healthy eating and an understanding of sustainable food practices. The excitement and curiosity of students holding their seed packets was a memorable sight and a step toward nurturing environmental responsibility. In August and September 2023, the sessions extended to include student-led activities that showcased their growing awareness and creativity. Children created impactful posters as part of a campaign to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, reflecting a deep understanding of the risks and their commitment to being change agents in their communities.

These efforts not only equipped students with essential health knowledge but also empowered them to take initiative in spreading awareness and adopting healthier habits. The Foundation of Sustainable Health India remains committed to scaling such impactful initiatives that bring long-term change in the health outlook of young generations
